Its been about 2 months since I decided to learn Korean, my knowledge of Japanese has helped me lot in understanding the various aspects of Korean. Korean and Japanese have similar grammar say about 80% or more so I prefer making notes in Japanese as much as possible. I’m not using a dedicated textbook to study Korean but a combination of podcast and videos.

1) Lets speak Korean video series

LSK series has video episode of 10-15 mins and every video they discuss about a new topic. There are 3 seasons of LSK series I’m using the one with 260 episodes. The videos are in English but my knowledge of  Japanese helped me understand the structure. Search youtube for the LSK series videos.

2) Seemile Korean (instruction in Japanese)

I’m using the one with Japanese instruction, but there are videos in English as well. Check here

3) チョアヨ!韓国 – This is a Japanese podcast about learning Korean for travel purpose, I’m using it so that I can understand the use of Korean in everyday situations which is different from the polite versions we learn in textbooks initially.

Apart from these I have also gone through TTMIK season 1, and another Japanese podcast.

So my study pattern is studying small 10-20 min video/audio at a time and making notes on them, listening to Korean pronunciation repeatedly as that is the biggest challenge for me in Korean study.

At this moment I’m not studying Korean regularly as my main language of study is Japanese, but once I finish with my JLPT N2 exams in July I will move my attention to studying Korean everyday. I dont have any definite goals in Korean at the moment but by the end of the year I should have some command over the language.

Enjoy studying Korean…. Bye!
