Fruits in Korea

Fruits galore! Ever seen fruit stalls in dramas and wondered if the neat arrangement and pretty, flawless fruits are props or really thus so in real life?

The answer: YES.

Photo of a random fruit stall. Korean fruit stalls have an obsession with neatness. All the fruits are nicely stacked, whether in baskets, boxes etc. And it’s always the same formation in a basket. A tower of fruits. I always wonder how they have time to do it.

And yes. Fruits are really pretty and flawless in Korea. Don’t ask me why. I haven’t really seen that many ‘bad fruits’ there. The best of the fruit crops get shipped to Lotte / Shinsaegae and those expensive department malls. But the ones you seen around neighborhoods aren’t too shabby either.

Unlike the many rotten fruits we see quite often in Singapore… Even in supermarkets.

Vans like this are really common too! Instead of a fruit stall, you can see ajusshis selling fruits at the back of the van. Most of these fruits are really cheap too and they usually have some kind of good deal going on. Have seen people buying from them too! Some of the trucks even have loudspeakers advertising their goods. Pretty interesting. The one above is for 꿀수박, meaning honey watermelons. Note how the is emphasized lol.

Another different setting. This is a wholeseller market that I visited. Somehow I think the quality is a little lacking here. There are quite a number of stalls here, and fierce competition. I avoided looking at any of the ajummas because they are all too eager to drag me to their stall.

Durians!! They don’t look very fresh. And very expensive. Can’t remember how much it was.. maybe 20,000won?

Watermelons!! That knife looks scary :P It’s for people to taste their watermelons before deciding whether to purchase or not!

I haven’t been able to update this site for ages. Time to revive it. D: It’s hard managing so many blogs at one go.

I’ll try to update here as often as possible. I think most of the other bloggers are busy too.. We’ll see if this site can survive. >< This is a group and community, so if you wanna help out, let me know!! You are free to post etc on your own motivation, time.
