Not sure if you guys are watching, but 옥탑방 왕세자 (옥세자) is my latest drama crack! And this is one of my favorite scene ever. Rooftop prince in the convenience store! 
The best use of 헐. EVER.
It’s difficult to spell out the meaning of 헐, but it’s akin to the -.- expression. It doesn’t have meaning but rather an exclamative sound when you feel like rolling your eyes in a ‘wadever~~~’ kind of situation.
왕세자: 여봐라. 요기할 것을 조금 다오. 내일 아침 돈화문이 열리면 그 때 음식 값을 후하게 쳐줄 것이다
알바생: 헐
왕세자: 헐값이 아니다. 아주 후하게 쳐줄 것이니 저기 찾아들이 먹는 국수 한 그릇을 내놓으라 .
알바생: 헐
왕세자: 무에가 헐은 헐이냐?! 어서 국수를 내놓지 못할까?
알바생: 대박!
The joke comes when the prince, coming from the Joseon Dynasty, has no idea what the slang 헐 is about. He thinks that the girl is talking about 헐값 (dirt cheap price) and goes on to say that he will reward her handsomely, and not pennies. ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ In the end he got so frustrated that he was like 헐 wad?!! And the girl’s tone is so daebak too. ㅎㅎㅎ

쳐주다 [처주다] – to pay or give back in an appropriate amount
무에 – a contraction of 무엇이

Cool! For this scene and this scene alone, I’m dropping my King 2 Hearts download for the meantime and downloading Rooftop Prince episode 1 now instead. The 알바생’s acting is seriously 대박!!! Makes me want bit players to also win acting awards!

ㅎㅎㅎㅎ it’s awesome right!
the whole show is full of awesomeness. The only gripe is that the story moves too fast! makes me wonder how they can sustain 20 eps at that speed.

Bahaha! I was laughing SO hard when this scene came on. Her facial experession and the tone in which she delivered her lines were just too funny. It would make for an amusing ring tone, mhh~
I always wondered if there’s something comparable to 헐 outside of Korea and I think your comparison to the -.- emoticon is spot on.

I am about to finish watching 옥탑방 왕세자 tonight and fell in love with the beautiful language. The Joseon language integrated into the modern dialog just sounded so exotic!! Do you have any resources that I can look into more of the ancient language? This drama got me all hooked now.
And I am so impress that you can transcribe the script for this scene. You did a 대박 job! I search everywhere and I cannot find the drama script for this show. If anyone finds it, please let me know. I find that learning through reading the script is very effective (entertaining and keeps me motivated).
